A server that looks like a community someone cares for

A newcomer first sees a Discord server in an invite, and a Minecraft server in the in-game server list and on ranking sites. A few small graphics decide the first click: the icon, the banner and the name. After joining, members look at role icons next to nicknames every day and use the emotes everyone else uses.

We design these graphics as a set with a shared palette, line style and motifs. Players recognise the same mark in the 64 by 64 pixel icon in the game, on the server list banner, in the item store and on Discord. If the server does not have a brand yet, we start with a simple community mark or a mascot.

The item store is where a server earns the money to keep running, so we design rank, key and bundle graphics as carefully as the logo. For a server network we design a system: a shared mark and rules for creating the badges of each new game mode.

Bots, panels, websites and stores for servers are built by the software house VulCode we work with every day. We design their look and graphics in the style of the server, and draw items and icons for the resource pack in our pixel art service.

Mistakes in server graphics

Each one makes a server look like a random chat instead of a community.

  • An icon unreadable at 64 pixels

A logo with small text and fine detail loses legibility in the icon on the in-game server list and in role icons.

  • A banner with no room for the name

Discord shows the server name on the banner, so important elements in the top strip disappear under it.

  • Every graphic in a different style

A logo from a generator, a banner from a template and emotes from different people make the server hard to remember.

  • An item store made of random graphics

Ranks and bundles in different styles look less trustworthy, and the store is where the server earns the money to keep running.

  • Characters from other brands

Emotes and a mascot featuring a character the server has no rights to put the whole community at risk. We draw characters designed from scratch.

Where players see the server branding

The key requirements we prepare files to. Platforms change them, so we check them again on every project.

At least 960 x 540 pixels in a 16:9 ratio, with the top 48 pixels free of important elements. According to Discord help, available from boost level 2.

Role icons

64 x 64 pixels and a file up to 256 KB, available from boost level 2.

Server emotes

Files up to 256 KB in the formats Discord accepts, animated ones included.

Minecraft server icon

A 64 x 64 pixel server-icon.png file in the main server folder.

Server list banners

Each list sets its own sizes, so we ask for the list of sites you submit your server to.

Server branding step by step

A community mark or mascot

A server lives through people who want to identify with it.A mark or a mascot is the starting point of the whole branding: the icon, banner, role icons, emotes and announcement graphics all come from it.

If the server belongs to a game, a channel or a team, the branding develops their style. If there is no brand yet, we start with a simple community mark or a mascot that works well at small sizes.

Discord: invite, banner and roles

Every Discord graphic has its own requirements. The banner has to leave a calm strip for the server name, the invite background cannot have important elements under the invite box, and role icons are only 64 pixels, so a simple silhouette and colour are what count.

Discord unlocks some graphics only once the server reaches a boost level. We design them in advance, so you can upload them as soon as they unlock, and we check each one in light and dark themes.

Minecraft: icon, logo and server lists

Players pick a Minecraft server from a list: in the game they see the icon and description, on ranking sites a banner, and on Discord and social media the logo.If each of these graphics looks different, the server is hard to remember.

We design the server logo to work in the 64 by 64 pixel icon the game shows on the server list, and in versions for light and dark backgrounds. Banners are prepared to the requirements of the lists you submit your server to.

An item store that looks trustworthy

Players buy a rank or a bundle if the store looks as carefully made as the rest of the server. We design rank, key and bundle graphics as one system, with a clear difference between levels.

Files are prepared at the sizes and format of the store platform you use, for example Tebex. The store itself and its setup stay with the platform or VulCode.

A server network and new modes

In a server network each game mode needs its own badge, and the whole has to look like one brand. We design a shared mark and rules for creating mode badges, so a new mode does not mean designing everything from scratch.

A mascot with a character sheet and a set of poses helps with announcements, the item store and emotes, and a website with a design system lets you add new modes in the same layout.

Website, bot and store

A larger server needs a website describing its modes, a store and often its own bot.Bots, panels, websites and stores are built by the software house VulCode we work with every day, so the design goes into development without being explained to yet another company.

We design the website in Figma, in desktop and mobile versions. If you have your own developer, we hand over the design with components and styles.
