What you get in a menu project

Every menu is delivered as a print version and a version that is easy to update.

  • Menu design

A layout of categories, dishes, descriptions and prices in the style of the venue, readable at the table.

  • Markings

Icons or symbols for vegetarian and spicy dishes and allergens, based on your list.

  • Print files

A PDF with bleed in CMYK, prepared for the chosen format and paper.

  • Phone version

In larger packages, a menu opened by QR code that reads well on a small screen.

  • Update template

A file in Canva or another tool where you change prices and dishes yourself.

  • Daily menu

A template for a one-page daily or seasonal menu.

Every guest reads the menu

Guests hold the menu for a few minutes, often in dim light, and look for two things: something they fancy and the price. If the menu is a wall of small text, they pick what they know or ask the waiter. A well-structured menu guides the eye and helps them decide.

We design menus from the structure: categories in the order people order, clear dish names, short descriptions and prices in the same place on every line. Only then do we choose typography, colours and graphics in the style of the venue.

Prices and dishes change more often than the interior. That is why we hand over a template with the design, where you can change a price, add a seasonal dish or prepare a daily menu without a designer. We prepare the phone version so it reads without zooming.

We do not print menus. We prepare print files, suggest paper that resists marks and spills, and you pay the printer directly.

Legibility and price layout

Categories in ordering order

Starters, soups, mains, desserts, with drinks separate or at the end.

Name before description

The dish name is clear, the description short and smaller, with the key ingredients.

Prices in one place

The price always sits in the same place on the line, without dot leaders across the page.

Contrast in dim light

We check text in dim light, because that is how menus are read in the evening.

How we design a menu

  1. Dish list1-2 days

Dishes, prices, descriptions and markings in a spreadsheet, plus photos of the venue interior.

    1
  2. Structure1-2 days

Category order, page split and space for recommended dishes.

    2
  3. Design2-7 days

Layout and style in the character of the venue.

    3
  4. Phone version1-3 days

In larger packages, the menu for the QR code.

    4
  5. Files and templates1-2 days

Print files, templates and update instructions.

We reserve about 15% of the project time for revisions. Send the dish list and prices in a spreadsheet, because retyping from paper is a common source of mistakes.

What menu design pricing depends on

The price changes with the number of pages and menus, then with whether you need a phone version and venue identity.

  1. 1

    Number of pages

Food, drinks and wine lists are separate pages to set and check.

  2. 2

    Phone version

A phone menu needs a separate single-column layout.

  3. 3

    Graphics

Illustrations or dish photo editing add work.

  4. 4

    Language versions

Each language is a separate layout and a check that everything fits.

How not to overpay

  • Send the dish list as a spreadsheet, not a photo of a page
  • Use the template for price changes instead of a new design
  • Design all menus at once
  • Order the menu with the identity before opening

Who we design menus for

  • Restaurants

A food and wine menu in the character of the venue, with a phone version.

  • Cafés and bakeries

A board menu, a counter card and a template for seasonal changes.

  • Food trucks and bars

A short menu readable from a few metres away in the queue.

  • Hotels and guesthouses

Restaurant, room service and bar menus in one family.

  • New venues

A menu together with a logo and table materials, before opening.

What to prepare for a menu project

A current dish list in a spreadsheet saves the most time.

0 / 6 ready

  • A dish list with prices and descriptions in a spreadsheet
  • Allergens and markings for each dish
  • Photos of the interior and your current menu
  • Venue logo and colours, if you have them
  • Format and number of copies
  • The person who will update the menu

Types of menu

A venue often needs several menus. We design them as one family.
