Campaign adaptations

Versions of the motif for further formats, from citylights to web banners, and on request for social media and digital screens.

What you get in a poster, billboard or roll-up project

We prepare every format to the spec of the printer, media owner or system you order, because visible areas differ between manufacturers.

  • Poster and billboard

Compositions built on one idea, readable from a distance, with the billboard as a separate landscape composition, not a cropped poster.

  • Campaign adaptations

Versions of the motif for further formats, from citylights to web banners, and on request for social media and digital screens.

  • Roll-up

A design in the chosen width, accounting for the part hidden in the cassette.

  • Backdrop, banner and counter

Graphics for a fabric backdrop or banner with a line above the heads of visitors, and for a counter readable at the height of someone standing in front.

  • Visual

A to-scale preview, a visual on the display site or, for a booth, a 3D model with dimensions, walls, counter and graphics.

  • Print and production files

Files at full or reduced scale to the spec of the printer, media owner or supplier, at the right resolution, with bleed and in CMYK.

Legibility from a distance

One idea

One image and one line. A second piece of information can be smaller; a third gets lost.

Few words

On a billboard, a line that can be read in a few seconds. Details go to the website or a QR code on a poster.

Strong contrast

Dark on light or light on dark, with no text over a busy photo.

Heavy letters

Thin typefaces and fine details disappear at a distance and in poor light.

Posters, billboards and roll-ups are read on the move

A billboard is passed by car in a few seconds, a poster at a bus stop is seen between one bus and the next, and at a trade fair visitors walk down the aisle glancing at booth after booth. In that time people notice one image, read a few words and maybe remember the name. A design that tries to say more says nothing.

That is why we design around one idea: one image, a short line, the brand and one piece of information on what to expect or what to do. We check the design to scale and from the distance it will be seen from, not just up close on a screen. A booth adds height: what is visible above the crowd, what is at eye level and what people standing at the counter will block.

A campaign or a booth usually means many formats: a B1 poster, a billboard, a citylight, a roll-up, a backdrop, a counter, a social media post. We compose each one separately, with the same motif and in one style, not stretched from one file. For a custom booth we prepare a 3D visual with dimensions showing the walls, counter, screens and graphics before the supplier starts production.

We do not print, rent advertising space or build booths. We prepare files for the large-format printer, the media owner and the display system supplier, and on request help compare supplier quotes. You pay for print, display, production and installation directly to them.

How we design a poster, billboard or booth

  1. Brief and specs1-3 days

The goal, display locations or the fair and booth size, and the specs of the printer, media owner or supplier.

    1
  2. Idea and hierarchy1-4 days

Two or three directions, an image and a line, checked from a distance, and for a booth what should be seen from afar, up close and during a conversation.

    2
  3. Design2-10 days

Refining the chosen direction in the main format, or graphics for every booth element in one style.

    3
  4. Adaptations and visual2-5 days

Further formats composed separately, with visuals on display sites or a 3D booth model with dimensions.

    4
  5. Files1-3 days

Print and production files to spec and digital versions.

We reserve about 15% of the project time for revisions. Get the printer, media owner and supplier specs before we start, because they differ between companies, and check the production lead time with the supplier early, because fairs have a fixed date.

What poster, billboard and roll-up design pricing depends on

The price changes with the number of formats and elements, then with whether the design needs an illustration and whether the booth uses a ready system or a custom build.

  1. 1

    Number of formats and elements

Each format, roll-up, backdrop and counter is a separate composition, not a crop of the previous one.

  2. 2

    Image

A ready photo is different work from a photomontage or an illustration from scratch.

  3. 3

    Type of booth

A custom build needs a 3D model and graphics fitted to the structure.

  4. 4

    Specifications

Multi-panel prints, unusual media, systems and joins need extra file preparation.

  5. 5

    Versions and supporting materials

Variants with different dates or cities are extra files, and flyers, a catalogue and business cards for the fair are separate projects.

How not to overpay

  • Collect the specs of every display site and choose the supplier before we start
  • Choose one main message
  • Order the full set of formats at once
  • Avoid dates on roll-ups so you can reuse them
  • Start early before the trade show season

Who we design posters, billboards and roll-ups for

  • Event organisers

A concert, festival or conference poster adapted to print and social media formats.

  • Local businesses

A billboard on the approach road and posters nearby, with one clear line.

  • Companies at fairs and conferences

A booth that stands out in the aisle and has room for conversations, or roll-ups and a backdrop that are easy to transport and set up.

  • Chains and franchises

A promotional campaign and roll-ups for many locations from one template, with files for every format.

  • Schools, universities and institutions

Information posters, social campaigns and open day materials in one style.

  • Product brands

An outdoor campaign with a key visual consistent with packaging and online ads.

How to prepare for the project

Format specs, one main message and the date the materials must be ready matter most.

0 / 7 ready

  • The goal of the campaign or the fair and the main message
  • A list of formats and display locations
  • For a booth, the name of the fair, its date and booth size
  • Specs from the printer, media owner or system supplier
  • Photos, illustrations or product visuals, if they are to be used
  • Logo, colours and typefaces
  • The date the materials must be printed by

Prices of every variant

What goes at which height on a booth

A booth is seen in layers. We design every height with a different job.

Above heads

The logo and brand name, visible from the end of the aisle over the crowd.

At eye level

One line about what you offer and for whom.

At the counter

Details, a QR code, contact and materials to take away.

Low down

Nothing important, because people, bags and chairs will block it.

Posters, outdoor campaigns and trade show booths

One motif, many formats

A portrait poster and a landscape billboard have completely different proportions. Cropping one from the other usually ends with a line that is too small or a cut-off image. That is why we compose each format separately: with the same motif, colours and line, but a layout fitted to the shape.

In a campaign we start with the key visual, the main motif, and then adapt it to further media. The extreme formats, very narrow or very wide, are the hardest, so we test the idea on them first.

Files for large-format print

A billboard does not need the resolution of a poster seen up close, but it does need exact dimensions, bleed and information about joins if it is printed in several panels. Large-format printers have their own specs: some want a 1:1 file, others a reduced one.

That is why we ask for the printer or media owner spec before preparing files. If you do not have it, we prepare files to typical requirements and adjust them once the printer is chosen.

Roll-ups: visible area and cassette

The bottom part of a roll-up graphic hides in the cassette and is not visible when set up. Exactly how much depends on the manufacturer, so we ask for the spec or the model name before design. Key content stays in the upper part, visible over tables and people.

A roll-up is read from a few metres, so poster rules apply: one line, the logo, one piece of information and possibly a QR code at hand height. A list of services will fit, but nobody will read it.

A QR code on a poster or roll-up

On a poster or roll-up people stand next to, for example at a bus stop, in a venue or at a booth, a QR code leading to tickets, sign-ups or an offer makes sense. On a billboard seen from a car it does not, because nobody will scan it.

The code needs the right size and clear space around it, and the link is best routed through an address you can change without reprinting. We test it at the final size before printing.

A 3D booth visual

A custom booth is easy to misjudge from flat drawings. In a 3D model you can see whether the counter hides the logo on the wall, whether the screen is at the right height and how the booth looks from the aisle on both sides.

You can use the visual beyond the project too: in talks with the supplier, in the application to the fair organiser and in a social media announcement of your participation.

Timelines before a fair

Fairs have a fixed date, and suppliers have full calendars before the trade show season. It is worth starting early: a few weeks for design, then the production time at the supplier, which for a custom build can be longer than the design itself.

We first agree the date files go to the supplier and plan the stages backwards from it. If time is short, we suggest a ready display system instead of a custom build.
